CPR Education Day at the Beach

A few weeks ago I was asked to put on a First Aid and Resuscitation training day at the beach.

So at 1030 today we will be at Ruakaka Beach working with a group that includes the University of Auckland Surfing Club.

Feel free to come out to the beach and ask a question or two. (We might livestream it, if I can figure out how to.)

We’ll cover a little first aid, CPR, and a bit of life-threatening bleeding management as well.

The main resource is Surf Life Saving New Zealand’s surf lifeguard training award manual. It’s free, useful, and publicly accessible online.

Find it here: https://www.surflifesaving.org.nz/lifesaving/lifesaving-resources

And if you can, donate a koha to SLSNZ, to help support their efforts in protecting New Zealand beaches, teaching first aid, and leading coastal and river search and rescue across New Zealand: https://secure.flo2cash.co.nz/donations/SurfLife/DonateSecure.aspx

If you don’t already volunteer with your local surf life-saving club, consider it.

They offer lifeguard training for ages 14 and up, Junior Surf for younger kids, and Patrol Support positions for people who prefer to stay dry, but still want to help their beach community!
